Q-1 Why couldn't the Young Seagull fly ?
Ans- The seagull was alone on the rock.He was afraid to fly. Whenever he tried to fly, he saw a vast expanse of sea blow him and it seemed to be very far down. Every time when he took a little run forward to the brink of the ledge and attempted to flap his wings , he became afraid.
Q-2 Why was the young seagull alone at the ledge ?
Ans-The young seagull was alone at the ledge because his family had already flown away.He could not fly with them because he was afraid of the long stretch of the sea and his depth.His couldn't not gether his courage to attempt his first flight while his brother and sister have flown away from there.
Q-3 How did his mother and father try to make him fly ?
Ans- His mother and father tried a lot to encourage him to fly. Them came around to him , calling to him shrilly, scolding him, threatening to let him starve on the ledge unless he flew away. But he was afraid and to save his life he could not move.
Q- 4 How did the young seagull try to attract his parents' attention ?
Ans- He went toward the brink of the ledge and stood on one leg.Then he closed one of his eyes and pretended to be falling asleep. He thought that this attempt of him would make them come towards him.
Q- 5 What made the young seagull finally fly ?
Ans-The young seagull was very hungry, so his mother took a piece of fish in her beak and came very close to the young seagull.But sea didn't gave the piece to the seagull. This sight made him maddened and he tried to catch the piece of fish, it fell out of the ledge and made efforts to fly. Thus his hunger, and his mother's trick made him finally fly.
Q- 6 How did his family finally react when he learn to fly ?
Ans- When he began to fly, his father flew over him, screaming in happiness. His two brothers and his sister flew joyfully around him curveting and banking and soaring and diving. They were encouraging him to keep flying.

Q-1 Do you think the seagull's mother loved him? Give reasons for your answer.
Ans- Yes, the young seagull's mother loved him very much. She came around calling to him shrilly, upbraiding him, threatening to let him starve on his ledge unless he flew away. She kept watch over him when the others were busy.
To encourage him , she tore a piece of fish that lay at her feet and then scrapped each side of her beak on the rock.
She then tricked the young seagull into flying by dangling a piece of fish just out of his reach and making him dive for it and take his first flight.
Q- 2 It is true that without the help of the members of family, the young seagull couldn't fly. Describe.
Ans- In the beginning the story ' His First Flight' the young seagull was very afraid. His parents tried their best to encourage him for flying, but all in vain.They even threatened him that he would die of hunger. But he couldn't gather his courage.He did not have confidence to fly.
At last, his parents , brothers and his sister flew away from the ledge, leaving him alone on the ledge.Staying on the ledge for 24 hours, he became very hungry.
So he tried to call out his mother.She took a piece of fish into her beak and came towards him.But when she reached near, she stopped at a little distance.
In order to catch the piece of fish , he dived without thinking about the result and fell downwards.The next moment, he could feel his wings spread outwards and he started flying.Thus his mother helped him to fly.
So it is very cleared that without the help of the members of his family , the young seagull would not be able to fly.
Q -3. Describe the humiliation and taunting that the young seagull faced from his family when he used to sit alone on his ledge without mustering his courage to fly in the air.
Answer: The young seagull used to sit on .the ledge all alone. He used to see his two brothers and sister flying around him. They had learnt flying only the day before. Not that he didn’t try before. He had come to the edge of the ledge and tried to flap his wings. But he became afraid soon. He felt certain that his wings would never support him. So he bent his head and ran away to the little hole under the ledge. His brothers and sister had far shorter wings than his own. But they succeeded flapping their wings and flew away.
He failed to muster his courage to take the plunge. His father and mother flew around him scolding and taunting him. They also threatened to let him starve on his ledge unless he flew away. The thing that compounded his agony was that his elder brother had caught his first herring and devoured it. His parents circled around his brother raising a proud cackle. On the other hand, the family had walked down the opposite chiff taunting him with his cowardice.
Q-4. Hesitations and fears play necessary parts in human life but we get success in any enterprise only when we overcome our doubts, hesitations and fears. Justify this statement in light of the young seagull’s efforts to muster the courage to fly in the air.
Answer: Nothing in life can be taken for granted. Skills have to be learnt in life with your own efforts. Parents can only help in teaching and encouraging us to learn things. But we have to learn them through our own efforts of trials and errors. Who doesn’t suffer from hesitations and fears in the beginning? It takes time to take the final plunge. So it happened with the young seagull.
In spite of constant encouragements and motivations, he couldn’t muster the courage to fly. He was certain that his wings would not support him. He faced regular taunting and humiliations of his family. They even threatened to let him stare at the ledge unless he flew away. But they say that necessity is the mother of invention. Maddened by hunger, he dived at the fish which his mother was carrying in her beak. He felt his wings spreading outwards. Finally, he soared to come down over the sea. When he floated on the sea, his family celebrated his success by offering pieces of fish to him.
