              CHARACTER SKETCH - VALLI

 Valli is an important  and main character of 'Madam Rides the bus'. She was an eight - years old girl, born in a small village. Her real name was Valliammai.

She was very curious girl. She spent her past time standing in the front doorway of her house, watching what was happening in the street outside. By standing on the door of house she collected all information  about bus, coming to her town.

She was very meticulous in planing for the trip. She calculated the distance between her home to the town and the time it took for going and coming back to her village.

She was full with ardent desire. she used  to watch out a bus which comes from near by town to her village.That developed a desire of visit in Valli. She became very fond of to watch the bus which brought new passengers. She also want to ride ones in that bus.

Valli was a determined girl. To fulfill her desire to ride in the bus she saved the money by resisting temptations to buy her favorite things like,balloons, peppermint, toys etc. 

She  also proved herself to be an impressive and bold girl. When the conductor tried to help her she refused him boldly. She also refused to get any help in getting on the bus. When conductor gave her hand to help she said," I can get on by myself .You don't have to help me". 

Valli was very strong and disciplined. On her first side on bus when she stood on seat to see out side of bus she heard a voice that called her a child. She became and said that there nobody here who's a child.  When the bus conductor called her madam she firmly said, " I am not a madam".

Valli was very emotional and sensitive girl.

On her first side in the bus she saw a cow running in the middle of the road. She laughed, clapped and enjoyed to see the cow. When when see was coming back she saw the same cow lying dead on the road. This sight haunted her and saddened her.  She was very mature. When talking with conductor or the old lady she replied maturely. After seeing the cow dead, she refused to look out of the window thereafter.

Valli on the whole, can be described as a curious , joyful,disciplined, smart , bold and at the same time, a mature girl.
