NOTE-MAKING  and SUMMARIZATION 
Types of Questions
1. Making Notes (5 Marks)

  - 2  marks for the notes
  - 1  mark for the title
  - 1 mark for numbering and indenting
  -1  mark for key/glossary
Always include a title, heading, sub-headings, proper numbering and abbreviations.

2. Writing a Summary (3 Marks)
2 marks for content
1 mark for expression
The summary must be grammatically correct, include all the main points from the notes, and be written in up to 50 words.

Uses of Abbreviations in Note-Making

Use of abbreviations are recommended while making notes as they help in writing the information briefly. The following are some of the ways in which you can make abbreviations.
1. First few letters of the word are enough to remember what the abbreviation stands for.

For example
imp for ‘important’
info for ‘information’
eval for ‘evaluation’

2. Remove all (or most of) the vowels from the word and use just the key consonants bunched together.
For example
mngmt for ‘management’
mkt for ‘market’
mktng for ‘marketing’
dvpt for ‘development’

i.e.    that is

=   equal  ,as the same

w/o.   without
≠         does not equal, is not the same as
etc.    etcetera
≈        is approximately equal to
♂/♀     male / female
<       is less than, is smaller than

KEY POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND 

The following points will help you in making good notes:
1 - Read the passage quickly but carefully. Try to understand main points and supporting details.
2 - Underline the keywords as you read.
3 - Notes should be in points and in an appropriate format.
4 - Organise your ideas into main heading, sub-headings and sub-sub-headings (if possible).
5 - Abbreviations and symbols are freely used. Remember to give at least 5–6 abbreviations in the glossary.
6 - Give a title to your notes. Avoid a long sentence for the title.
7 - While making a summary, ensure that your summary does not exceed 1/3 of the length of the original text.
8 - The summary  should contains only the main ideas and the supporting  details.
