The Narrator  - A 37 years old businessman who dreams  of repeating  Captain James Cook's round - the - world voyage.

Mary - The narrator’s  wife. She learns sailing skills and joins him on the three- years voyage. 
Suzanne - %he narrator’s  seven - years - old daughter. 
Jonathan - The narrator’s  six - years- old songs.

Literary Devices  Used in The Chapter- 

Imagery - 'Its out there in front of us,  as big as a battleship '   creating a clear picture  of Ile Amsterdam.

Dialogue  - the children’s  words like -   You are the best daddy in the whole world and the best captain.
' We are not afraid  to die ..... If We Can All Be Together .

Hyperbole  -  Exaggeration  emphasises emotions  and danger, shown  when the island is described as ' the  most beautiful  island in the world.'
Personification  -  the wind is personified  in the  screaming  of the wind  and spray was painful  to the ears.

THEME  Of  The LESSON  - 

Courage  and  Bravery  - The  story shows how the family faces a life - threatening  storm, their Courage  helps them survive  despite  extreme danger.
Family Unity and Love - the family's  love and support   for each other give them the strength  to face fear and danger.
Hope and Optimism -  Even in the worst conditions,  the family  maintains hope  to overcome  from danger.

 Man Vs. Nature  - The story highlights human vulnerability  when faced with Nature' s power , showing  how unpredictable  and dangerous  the sea can be.
